What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is a minimally invasive treatment to rejuvenate the skin. A device with fine needles creates tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin, which triggers the body to rush to create new collagen and elastin.
Results can include improved texture and firmness, as well as a reduction in all types of scars, pore size, wrinkles and stretch marks. Microneedling may also be combined with a topical treatment, like PRP (platelet rich plasma), hyaluronic acid, or another vitamin-rich serum like this one to improve and speed up the results. The diagram below shows how these needles trigger the skins natural cell turnover process.
How It Works
It is recommended that you use some sort of topical anesthetic before any microneedling procedure. Using a derma roller device, the roller travels over the skin leaving micro-injuries to the skin.
Procedures may be repeated typically 30 full days apart. You will select a needle size based off of what type of skin issue you are addressing.
Determining Needle Length
- For basic skin rejuvenation and wrinkle minimization, you will typically choose a needle length of .25mm – 0.5mm.
- Using .75mm – 1.0mm needles, patients will experience improvements in hyper pigmentation, sun damage, shallow acne scars, mild wrinkles and stretch marks.
- When needle length is increased from 1.0mm up to a maximum of 3.0mm, patients are virtually guaranteed to see reputable improvement to deep scarring and wrinkles, as well as complete skin cell turnover to produce a glowing complexion.
How Long To See Results?
Result time will vary depending on what exactly the patient is trying to achieve. For minimal skin condition treatment (sun damage, fine lines, etc.) 1 – 2 treatments will yield definite improvement.
For treating more serious conditions such as stage 2 – 4 acne scars, and deep wrinkles, 4 – 6 treatments are usually required, at about 4 – 6 weeks apart each.
To maximize results at the quickest time possible, add in a hyaluronic acid, or vitamin C serum to your daily regimen.
Side Effects And Recovery Time
Side effects are virtually non-existent, unless patient overuses their derma rolling devices to more than 2 sessions per month. Immediate side effects following treatment includes minor bleeding, and slight discomfort.
Recovery time is typically 24 hours for small needle sessions, and 2-3 days for deeper needle sessions.

Derma Roller Customer Testimonials
“Hey I would just like to post my experience with the derma roller. Prior to ever using the derma roller my tummy was very crepey and had a lot of loose skin due to me having a 10 lb baby and gaining 50lbs during my pregnancy! I purchased the derma roller in February and this has been my third roll since then I have had greeeaat results!”
“I got my first session the 30. of march, I peeled a little and I was a little red the first day, but I could use mineral makeup and go to work the next day. I got my second treatment the 9. of May, as last time I was a little red after and I peeled a little. I still have 2 treatments left. But i’m so happy about the result already, the scars are disappearing and my skin is soft and smooth!!”
“I had difficulty removing post acne/ hyper pigmentation marks tried a lot of products too. Derma rolling enabled my skin to be stimulated, I used 0.25, and also creates micro channels into the skin to allow product to penetrate rapidly and into the deeper layers. I also applied a special serum containing Stem Cells containing growth factors. I have to say this has been a great result for me, and totally happy with the result!!”
“I would say that I have seen real benefits on the backs of my hands. The skin on my hands had started to look loose and thin and lined, quite unpleasant actually. After just one rollering session the results were noticeable in terms of firmness and tightening. I will continue to roller my hands periodically. I have also applied to roller to my neck and decollete and to some old stretchmarks at the top of my inner thighs. The firming benefits were good, even after one attempt. Results seem to be permanent.”
